Muito obrigados ! Thank you for a great 6th International NIR Workshop !

ICNIRP thanks all speakers for their contribution, all organizers and sponsors for their support, and all those who attended the workshop and contributed to the success of the 6th International NIR Workshop of ICNIRP. Thank you for your participation !

The 6th International Non-Ionizing Radiation Workshop, jointly promoted by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and the Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology, took place at the Planetarium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 14 to 17 October 2008. Additionally, a local Brazilian side event was held immediately after the workshop on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning for presentation of work conducted by different Brazilian research groups and for discussion of a research agenda and of a risk communication strategy, in collaboration with ICNIRP. Please note that the original intention to organize the ICNIRP international NIR Workshop in Argentina along with the IRPA12 Congress was abandonned.

Electromagnetic fields of all frequencies represent one of the most common and fastest growing environmental influences, about which anxiety and speculation are spreading. All populations are now exposed to varying degrees of electromagnetic fields, and the levels will continue to increase as technology advances. The social relevance of such non-ionizing radiation cannot be underestimated and the analysis and discussion of scientific findings are of the utmost importance.

Non-ionizing radiation protection is a broad field demanding knowledge of many scientific disciplines including epidemiology, medicine, biology and physics and engineering. Every four years, an international workshop is organized by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation (ICNIRP) to present an up-to-date overview of the advancement of science and protection in different areas of non-ionizing radiation.

All details concerning the Workshop will be available here shortly. Meanwhile if you need any information, please do no hesitate to contact us at
