Bruce Drum is a biophysicist. He received his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University, Columbus, OH. After obtaining his PhD, Bruce completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Laboratory of Physiological Optics, Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD.  He then pursued an academic research career specializing in vision science, initially as a Research Scientist at the Department of Ophthalmology at George Washington University, Washington, DC. He then returned to the Wilmer Institute as an Assistant Professor in the Laboratory of Physiological Optics. Since 1994, he has been with the Food and Drug Administration, where he serves as an Expert Regulatory Review Scientist (Physicist), specializing in ophthalmic devices. He is a member of several professional societies, including the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), Optica (formerly the Optical Society of America),  the International Colour Vision Society (ICVS), and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He has an extensive publication record as an author, editor, and reviewer, and has also contributed to the development of ANSI and ISO medical device standards. Bruce Drum was appointed a member of the ICNIRP SEG in November 2024.
