Arno Thielens

Arno Thielens is currently working at Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) at the City University of New York as an associate professor and director of the radio frequency and milimeter wave facility. He received his Ph.D. degree in engineering physics from Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium, in 2015, where his research focused on personal exposure to radio-frequency (RF) electromagnetic fields. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Science and Innovation of Flanders, Belgium from 2015 to 2017, where he worked on the valorization of personal protective equipment for RF exposure. In 2017, he obtained an FWO [PEGASUS]² Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship funded by the EU in its Horizon 2020 program and the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO). From 2017 to 2019, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Berkeley Wireless Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley, where he worked on the development of the human intranet. In 2018, Dr. Thielens was appointed as a part-time professor at Ghent University. From 2020 to 2023, he was also a senior postdoctoral fellow of the FWO. Dr Arno Thielens is contributing to ICNIRP as a member of the Scientific Expert Group and Project Group Environment since July 2024.
