ICNIRP presentation at ICRP 2025

Oct 2025

The International Symposium on the System of Radiological Protection, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 7-9 October 2025 was a perfect platform for ICNIRP to present its approach. Thanks to the organizers!

Dr Akimasa Hirata, ICNIRP Chair, was glad to be given this opportunity to present how ICNIRP considers stratification and individualization in non-ionizing radiation protection in the session on 9 October 2025 chaired by Dr. Simon Bouffler and Dr. Nobuyuki Hamada  and attended by Dr Andrea Magistrelli, Dr Andrzej Wojcik, Dr Julie Burtt, and Benjamin Puzantian.

ICNIRP’s current guidelines are based on stratification, distinguishing between occupationally exposed workers and the general public through conservative thresholds and reduction factors that account for biological variability such as age, sex, and morphology. The concept of individualization although not yet actively addressed is acknowledged within ICNIRP’s framework.
