ICNIRP supports the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals are a call to action to end poverty and inequality, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy health, justice and prosperity. Therefore, ensuring that no one is left behind. ICNIRP shares these values.  

Our guidelines and statements exist to protect all people and the environment against the adverse effects of non-ionizing radiation (NIR).  

Our work particularly aligns with achieving the following Sustainable Development Goals:

Our guidelines protect all people from the potential harmful effects of non-ionizing radiation exposure. For example, our radiofrequency (RF) guidelines protect the general population and workers from excessive exposure to RF fields.
Our evidence-based guidelines, and the scientific assessment that underpins them is available freely to everyone. Our guidelines and statements are available on the ICNIRP website.
Our guidelines help ensure the safety of electricity from clean and affordable energy sources. For example, our low frequency guidelines protect the general population and workers from any hazards associated with the transmission, distribution, and use of electrical power.
Our guidelines make sure that industrial standards can provide safe technologies benefiting all people, including workers. For example, our laser guidelines are freely available for this purpose.
Our guidelines are applicable in countries where non-ionizing radiation regulations don’t exist, ensuring that everyone is protected. Our guidelines are open access, we participate in workshops and other forums and we provide tailored advice on request.
We provide advice on the potential health effects of non-ionizing radiation on life below the water. Specifically, an ICNIRP project is investigating the environmental effects of electromagnetic fields including animals such as turtles.
We provide advice on the potential health effects of non-ionizing radiation on life on land. Specifically, an ICNIRP project is investigating the environmental effects of electromagnetic fields including animals such as migratory birds.
