ICNIRP at the 2026 WHO IAC Meeting on Non-Ionizing Radiation in Geneva
A valuable and productive exchange at the 2026 International Advisory Committee (IAC) Meeting on Non-Ionizing Radiation at WHO in Geneva from 9 to 11 June 2026.
A key message from the meeting was clear: protecting health in this field is not about creating concern, but about building public trust through transparent risk assessment, scientific evidence, monitoring, and international collaboration.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of the newly adopted WHA79.13 resolution on Radiation and Health, which calls for stronger protection systems, improved professional capacity, greater public awareness, and better coordination across sectors.
On behalf of ICNIRP, Chair Akimasa Hirata shared updates on the ongoing low-frequency guideline revision and on ICNIRP’s broader activities in EMF and optical radiation.
ICNIRP Chair Akimasa Hirata and ICNIRP Commissioners Alberto Modenese, Young-Hwan Ahn, and Jens Kuhne had the pleasure to meet again in person with Emilie van Deventer from WHO reflecting the strong international collaboration that supports progress in non-ionizing radiation protection.
Thank you to WHO and all participants for the valuable discussions and continued collaboration, including colleagues from IARC, ICOH, ILO, IRPA, and many other partner organizations.
