WHO Resolution on Radiation Protection
Jun 2026
ICNIRP welcomes the WHO resolution on “Radiation and Health: Strengthening Global Protection, Preparedness and Response”, adopted at the 79th World Health Assembly. The resolution emphasizes the need for strong, evidence-based protection of the general public, workers, patients, and the environment from both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.
As an independent scientific organization in official relations with WHO, ICNIRP plays a central role by:
- Reviewing scientific evidence on non-ionizing radiation such as UV, EMF, and ultrasound
- Providing health-based exposure guidelines
- Supporting countries in developing coherent, harmonized policies
Working alongside WHO, ICRP, IAEA, ILO, ITU and others, ICNIRP helps ensure that technological progress in medicine, communications and industry advances safely, protecting patients, workers and the public.
